Donita, my sister is someone I mention a lot in everyday life. I'm always so proud of her and amazed at the life she is accomplishing. She is a new small business owner and a mediator with gumption. She is a doting and amazing mother whose world revolves around her family in a good way. But today I saw something about my sister that made her my superhero. She is simply amazing.
We, our Taylor 5k group, finished our 2nd 5k in our hometown today. It was hot and 3 long miles to say the least. I hit my first wall. I know it's only 3 miles, but I've been battling some back issues and allowed myself to get dehydrated… which led to some wicked harsh leg cramps. I was miserable on that last mile. I wouldn't have finished if she hadn't been there encouraging and hobbling with me.
Donita is a jogger now and completed her 5k in 35 minutes, She was the first female with a stroller to finish. Not to shabby indeed considering that we are all fairly new to this thing. But she came back for me. I was in the last of the pack… actually the last… but that's to be expected.
Without Donita there I don't know how I would have done. Again, I hit the wall – Hard. But Donita drops her stroller and little rock star off with Dad – our happy cheerleader who brought cold towells for everyone (yea he rocks). She grabbed three bottles of water – two bananas and half a bagel and starts walking back up the 5k path. On the way back she passes out water to part of Team Taylor and makes her way to me.
There she continues to encourage and push me to finish. I thought I was going to crash on a bench and Donita had run ahead. But she came back with renewed determination. There were people waiting for me. People I didn't know who believed/hoped/expected me to finish this blasted thing.  We rounded the bend and we heard cheers. In the lifetime movie of the week this would have been the climatic finish followed by some brief writting stating what we went onto accomplish.
We finished, I didn't finish. I wasn't able to finish this race. But WE, Donita and I, finished. I think she counts for completing 2 5ks that day. Do you see why she  is my hero?

But I love this show and I just have too many thoughts right now. I'm working on organizing them and hopefully soon will have a post of actual substance… but for now… Enjoy Olive.

When was the last time you were disappointed?

I tend to be more disappointed in myself above other things. Mainly when my actions don't match my intentions or I make a plan and am not able to execute it. That being said, I'm disappointed in myself right now. I know that I need to work out every morning and that I feel so much better during the day… however I also know that my bed sleeps really well and it's nice to be cozy from time to time. I am getting back in the swing – which is totally nice. Just trying to stay on my path of most resistance I suppose.

Summer is finally here! What are your plans?

I have already been on my main trip this year. But I still have a few more things going on. Taking a short trip to the smokies and possibly a day trip to Indiana. I think it's going to be a great summer. It's already hot here as well – so looking forward to finding new ways to keep cool.

So I wish I had been able to update while I was gone, but after being made fun of for the use of the word cumbersome… I decided to leave the laptop at home. Plus I wasn't sure about wifi access.

The past 5 days were simply amazing for me. I "volunteered" (was asked and I don't know the word NO) to chaperon a youth camp trip to Lookout Mountain at Covenant College  ran by Student Life

I feel "almost" guilty when I say that I learned so much about myself during the past few days. I was challenged in my actions and feelings and emotional maturity. And some things were pointed out that I really need to work on. We had a fantastic speaker Jeremy Kingsley who I think is now on my must read list.

I am not a person who listens to "Christian Music" and this isn't said to make fun of it or to make anyone perturbed with me, but I find that it just isn't my favorite thing. However Stephen Miller led the music and I really came to appreciate it. I wouldn't mind his cd either. His band impressed me and the content was deep and clear. Even today I find myself humming different songs that were played.

I really loved getting to know the kids better – ie. at all. I learned names and hope to remember them next time I see them. I laughed alot this week – I needed that. It was nice to have a reprieve from work for a few days and to know that everything would be waiting for when I returned.

Going home is always nice, and this trip was no exception. However it is always bittersweet to come off the mountain and rejoin the real world. It's so much easier to be a better person when you are removed from all the stuff that just isn't good.

Right now I am packing for a youth trip I am about to leave for. I'm a little nervous about this. It's the first time I have left home since my trip in October. It's the first trip that isn't all about me and what I want to do. And that is probably a good thing… But I'm nervous. I will be with youth for the next 5 days. And I need a break from my life which constantly consumes me… and that I am a little selfish about. Not sure I'm gonna blog while I'm gone… which is kinda sad. But the break will be good.
I'm also bummed that I'm gonna miss out on seeing Dad and De before they leave for their grand adventure across the states. I'm also excited to hear about their travels and see what pictures they come home with.
SO, probably won't see me for a few days, you can still follow me on twitter @danitaylor615 . Now off to pack the rest of my loot… I don't think it's too much… what do you think?

Those of you in the know, understand that I am fighting a pretty wicked back issue right now. So, even blogging at the computer sounds like hell. Thought I would cop out today and put in one of my favorite video's and I hope you enjoy this. I smile everytime  I watch it.

Yesterday I had the delight of Deidre coming over and spending the afternoon with me. Mainly I picked up around the house while she watched a few movies and we copied some recipes for a friends daughter who is learning to cook. I love when I can spend time with De because she is just easy to hang out with. We went to Walmart and decided to purchase a sno cone maker… yea I know. I'm 5, thankyouverymuch.

And of course we had to purchase the bright blue sugar free blueberry flavoring. Seriously fun and a great alternative to my ice cream problem.

Deidre enjoying the fruits of our labor. We also had to get the groovy straws with spoons in the end… Yea, that's how we are cool like that.

I think some of my favorite things are random notes. One day I left my car at my dad's office while I ran an errand and returned to it later. This was waiting for me on my window.
This is especially special because while growing up Dad would often ask before dropping us off to school in the morning if we were going to have a good day or a great day. Deidre and I would shout from the backseat
"GREAT!!!"
So, I may have blogged about this before, But it's been a lasting memory and attitude. It's up to me on how my day will go. Things may happen that generally stink, but how I react is going to be the deciding factor.
So, are you going to have a good day or a great day?
